Asian Blepharoplasty
Asian blepharoplasty is a type of plastic surgery where the skin around the eyes is reshaped. The purpose of the procedure is to create an upper eyelid with a crease (double eyelid) from an eyelid without a crease (single eyelid). Anatomically, there are a number of differences in the upper eyelids of Asians compared with Caucasians. Approximately 50% of Asians are born with a single eyelid, and Asian blepharoplasties have been reported to be the most common aesthetic procedure in many parts of Asia. A procedure to remove the epicanthal fold (an epicanthoplsty) is often performed in conjunction with an Asian blepharoplasty. Some patients may choose to have only a "thinning" of excess skin or fat from fuller eyelids.
